A reward card allows you to use your credit in a way that makes you happy with yourself. For the most part, they reward you for some transactions, and charge you for others. The responsibility of it is on you to find which one of them you can use in the best of your personal interest. Remember, the ultimate goal is to save money and maximize the potential of your transactions.
Not all reward cards really give you rewards. Some just forget to charge you for some transactions, while others give you sizeable discounts. Take your pick, and use it the best way you can. If you grow weary, try another one. Just be sure you leave an escape clause in the terms of your agreement with each reward card company you work with. It would be a shame if you worked yourself into a horrible debt in the process.
They want you to hold on to their credit cards, the credit card company; they know that can make you spend if you have it. So they offer you rewards – that’s what they do with the reward cards – they offer you rewards so that you can spend. And so you do, you spend. But you get to enjoy the spending that you are doing. That is fair enough, isn't it?
Guys who have to travel a lot or very far can be smart about it. They could opt for that kind of credit card with rewards on it that come back to them each time they cover a certain distance or more on their flight tickets. That ought to shave quite a bit from their expenses. And if I were you, I’d look for ways to cash in on something that convenient also.
With various types of reward cards giving various privileges, it might be tempting to get them all. That would not be a smart move, though. On the long run you might end up paying a lot more than you would have paid even with a credit card that charges you. For that reason, you at least need to study the waters before you jump in.
